(Dan Tri) – Israel and armed groups blame each other for the attack on a hospital in Gaza that killed more than 500 people.

The Gaza Health Authority, run by Hamas forces, said on October 17 that more than 500 people were killed after an Israeli airstrike on al-Ahli Arabi Baptist hospital in the Gaza Strip.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the hospital that was attacked was home to many patients and medical staff.

If confirmed, this would be the deadliest attack in the history of the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

Osama Hamdan, Hamas spokesman, even accused the US of `giving the green light` to the attack after a hours-long meeting between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Israeli cabinet.

Israel has denied the accusations and said the hospital was attacked by rockets from Islamic Jihad.

`The intelligence sources we have indicate that Islamic Jihad is behind the rocket attack on the hospital in Gaza,` Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

However, Islamic Jihad also denied responsibility.

International leaders unanimously condemned the attack.

Russia and the United Arab Emirates have proposed convening an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the incident.

While it cannot be confirmed which side is behind the hospital attack, Jordan decided to cancel the summit between US President Joe Biden and Arab leaders.

Hezbollah warns of fourth day of `wrath`

The Lebanese armed force Hezbollah accused Israel of being behind the attack on the Gaza hospital and called on Muslims and Arabs to take to the streets to express their anger.

`Let tomorrow, Wednesday, be the day of rage against the enemy,` Hezbollah said.

Protests have broken out across the West Bank.

The incident took place when the conflict between Israel and Hamas entered its 11th day and showed no signs of abating.

The international community is working to prevent this war from spreading into a regional conflict.
