`In our attacks (since October 7), we have eliminated hundreds of enemy fighters, attacked more than 3,600 targets such as command posts, military infrastructure, and weapons factories.
`In total, we dropped about 6,000 bombs, weighing 4,000 tons, on Gaza. We will continue our strong and relentless attack as long as necessary,` the official added.
As noted by Al Jazeera correspondent, Gaza is continuously bombed from all directions.
The Israel-Hamas conflict flared up again on October 7 after more than 2 years of quiet.
The fighting, which has lasted nearly a week, has left more than 1,500 people in Gaza and more than 1,300 people in Israel dead.
Hospitals in Gaza are overloaded and at risk of turning into morgues when they have to receive thousands of injured cases while the infrastructure cannot cope.
Israel admitted being passive when the attack broke out
The Israeli army admitted being passive when Hamas attacked on October 7.
Talking about the surprise attack by Hamas, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that at that time, thousands of Hamas gunmen flooded into territory controlled by Israel.
`Thousands of Hamas fighters overran our southern border, while launching thousands of rockets. This has never happened since 1945,` he said.
Minister Gallant also gave some statistics on Israel’s losses: `More than 100 people were held hostage, more than 1,000 people were killed, more than 3,000 people were injured, more than 5,000 rockets were fired.
`This is a war for our future. The Israeli army will eliminate Hamas. This will be a long and difficult war, but we will win. Despite all the challenges, we are ready
Meanwhile, Iran warned that if Israel continues to attack Gaza, this area will face `new conditions`.
`They cannot completely surround Gaza and bomb civilian targets thinking there will be no price to pay,` said Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
He warned that if Israel continues its offensive campaign, this war could expand to other fronts.
