On October 9, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that its military aircraft had conducted air strikes against a series of targets of Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip.

`During the past 24 hours, Israeli Air Force planes carried out widespread attacks along the Gaza Strip, weakening Hamas forces,` the IDF statement said.

`In just three hours, dozens of aircraft attacked about 130 (Hamas) targets,` the IDF added.

The Israel Defense Forces later said that dozens of fighter jets attacked several `targets` in the Al-Furqan area in Gaza.

`This area serves as the center of the Hamas organization in the Gaza Strip, where many activities against Israel have been carried out, including in the past two days,` the IDF stated.

In a statement on October 9, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant ordered a `complete blockade` of the Gaza Strip, including a ban on food and fuel.
